Provides application of psychological knowledge to the development of intellectual, emotional, and behavioral competency of pupils through consultation, assessment, counseling, and research.
Duties:
1. Administers individual intelligence tests, achievement tests, personality tests, and tests to measure perceptual and motor development.
2. Interprets test findings to parents, teachers, administrators, and other professional staff.
3. Confers and counsels with individual pupils, parents, teachers, administrators, and other professional staff regarding pupils' potential, achievement level, and personality adjustment to aid in understanding and placing each pupil; recommend ways to help pupil or recommends sources from which they may seek further assistance.
4. Evaluates and interprets all testing; recommends pupil placement in special programs or classes; coordinates the procurement of necessary information and forms required for placing minors; and serves as a member of the local admissions committee.
5. Consults with other agencies and professionals, both public and private, for the purpose of correlating all available information regarding individual cases.
6. Makes recommendations in cases of exemption, nonpromotion, acceleration, and other cases upon request.
7. Provides individual or group counseling of pupils regarding academic, social or emotional problems.
8. Monitors compliance with assessment and IEP's; provides case management for students referred for special education.
9. Participates in faculty and staff meetings, and District committees as a representative of Pupil Services upon request.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
1. A Master's Degree
2. A valid California Credential to practice as a School Psychologist.
3. Any combination of one year of teaching and/or Clinical Internship experience.
4. Posess the following personal qualities:
a. Ability to meet District standards for physicalo and mental health
b. Evidence of good moral character
c. Satisfactory recommendations from training supervisors or other professionals who have observed the candidate's personal characteristics, scholastic achievement and job-related performance.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
Supplemental Information:
Reports to: Administrator of Pupil Services
Terms of Employment: Salary, benefits and work year as provided by contract between the Board of Trustees and the designated exclusive bargaining unit. The work year is designated as 195 days.
Evaluation: The evaluation and assessment of performance of the Psychologist will be conducted by the Administrator, Pupil Services in accordance with the provisions of Education Code 44660-44665 and Oxnard School District Board Policy 5450.
