Job Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, Student Support Services, teachers of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (“DHH”) assists site administrators and classroom teachers in designing and implementing an instructional program and/or support services which allows each student to access their educational environment, make progress on their IEP goals, and provide educational experiences that will enable each student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing to become a life-long learner, master the necessary skills for success, and achieve academic and personal potential. DHH teachers provide educational programing for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students ages 0-22 and assists the students to participate academically and socially in all educational environments. DHH teachers provide assessment, information and consultation services for educational planning for infants through adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This includes recommendations for ASL instruction, oral and aural methodologies, instruction in the areas of receptive and expressive language skills, listening skills, self-advocacy skills, academic skills as appropriate, and social skills development, determining what suitable assistive or adaptive technology is necessary, and providing classroom management strategies. DHH teachers collaborate with parents, families, classroom teachers and other professionals in order to ensure that students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing receives quality education and instruction. BA/BS Degree Appropriate California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students Must possess current knowledge of diagnostic and prescriptive techniques Deaf and Hard of Hearing education Must have LSL (Listening and Spoken Language) and/or Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATION: Experience in public school system PLEASE NOTE ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED
