***SEASONAL PART-TIME JOB ANNOUNCEMENT*** LAUSD IS HIRING LIFEGUARDS FOR OUR BEYOND SWIM READY PROGRAM! JOB DETAILS: POSITION: LIFEGUARD PAY RATE: 22.50/HOURLY SHIFTS: 6 HOURS 8AM-3PM DURATION: PART TIME 6 WEEKS DURING THE SUMMER (TENTATIVELY JUNE-JULY) ***DAYTIME HOURS*** JOB DESCRIPTION: Protects persons using a swimming pool by guarding against hazards or accidents and taking protective action in emergencies; provides rescue and first-aid services as necessary. Typical Duties 1. Enforces regulations at a school swimming pool to prevent accidents. 2. Rescues persons in danger of drowning and administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid when necessary. 3. Checks air temperature, chemical content, and temperature of water, and brings nonstandard conditions to the attention of persons responsible for pool maintenance. 4. Inspects pool equipment and reports unsanitary, hazardous, or unsafe conditions to pool supervisors or certificated personnel. 5. Performs minor emergency repair, maintenance, and clean-up work required to prevent accidents and to maintain maximum health conditions. 6. Answers inquiries and gives information to the public regarding swimming programs and special events. 7. Performs related duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics 1. Knowledge of regulations governing the operation and use of school swimming pools. 2. Knowledge of methods of rescuing persons from water. 3. Knowledge of first aid, including methods of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). 4. Knowledge of health standards and safety practices for swimming pools. 5. Knowledge of emergency procedures to obtain Fire Department Rescue Squad services. 6. Knowledge of school site Emergency Action Plan (EAP). 7. Ability to swim and apply water rescue methods, such as breaks, holds, and carries. Please see Job Description for full details
