EDUCATION: The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires schools to be in compliance when hiring paraprofessionals for classroom instruction. The following requirements are: • Graduation from High School or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, and • Completion of two years of higher education (48 semester units) or • Associate’s degree (or higher) or • Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting instruction.
