About the Jr. Kindergarten Program Old Orchard will be adding a second Jr. Kindergarten class for the first time in its 52 year history. The program serves students who are four years old at the start of the school year and is designed to help children grow into confident, capable learners and active members of their classroom and school community. Our Jr. Kindergarten program is academic in nature, while remaining developmentally appropriate for young learners. Particular emphasis is placed on developing the academic readiness, social-emotional skills, and classroom habits students will need to succeed in our advanced Kindergarten program. Throughout the year, students build foundational skills in language arts, mathematics, science, and social-emotional learning. They also strengthen their listening and speaking skills, learn to follow directions, ask relevant questions, and work cooperatively with both peers and teachers.
