About YCOE Special Education Programs: Special Education Paraeducators provide support to students with moderate to severe disabilities in classroom settings focused on functional life skills, communication, and social development. • Life Skills Classrooms (Ages 15–22) • Work with students developing daily living and vocational skills. Support may include assistance with toileting, self-help, and personal care needs. The classroom emphasizes the use of positive behavior intervention strategies, including visual supports, sensory tools, and positive reinforcement, to promote independence and functional life skills. • Primary & Elementary Classrooms (Grades K–5) • Support younger students in developing self-help, social, and foundational academic skills. Assistance may include toileting and personal care. Instruction incorporates positive behavior interventions, visual supports, sensory strategies, and individualized academic and social skill development
