Job Summary
THE POSITION: The Director I, Community Schools Initiative, will provide leadership and coordination for the Community Schools Initiative (CSI) division. Under the direction of the CSI Director III, this position will provide leadership support for the Community Schools Initiative which aims to disrupt inequities and break the cycle of poverty by leveraging assets to transform schools into community hubs. The Director I will support with the development of interest in the community schools framework, including integrated supports, authentic parent and community engagement, expanded, enriched and culturally responsive instruction and collaborative leadership. This position will provide leadership in providing technical assistance for school districts. The Director I will work closely with school and school district leaders who are in the planning and implementation phases of community schools. This position will collaborate closely with key Los Angeles County departments, local city services as appropriate, community-based organizations, businesses and LACOE staff to build partnerships and a network of high-quality resources. The Director I will also provide and lead program evaluation, professional development, guidance, and collaboration with school districts, LACOE stakeholders, and as appropriate, external stakeholders - county and city departments, community-based organizations and businesses. The Director I will also help to oversee the operations and professional development of LACOE staff who are implementing Community Schools Initiative as practitioners in school districts across the county. Under general administrative direction, the Director I makes decisions of critical consequence, impacting daily operations of the division and has supervisory responsibility for planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the quality and quantity of the work performed by professional, technical, and clerical employees within the division. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Experience: Comprehensive, directly related, and progressive experience, which includes three or more years as a teacher or support service provider and a minimum of five years of educational administrative experience. Administrative experience may include school, district and/or county-level administrative positions in K-12 education. Additional experience preferred. Education: A Master’s degree in education, social work, counseling or a closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. A doctoral degree is desirable.
