About the Employer
The Santa Barbara County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) serves all Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the geographic area of Santa Barbara County including the Santa Barbara County Education Office, for a total of 26 LEAs. The SELPA serves approximately 69,000 students TK through twelfth grade and up to 22 years old. In addition, Early Starts Services through SBCEO, serves125 infants and toddlers from birth to age 3. Santa Barbara County SELPA is a joint powers agency that provides oversight, guidance, training, and support to member local education agencies (LEAs), parents, guardians, and the community related to identifying and providing compliant, best practice Individualized Education Plan(IEP) Services to students with disabilities. The SELPA ensures that individuals with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education as per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act PL 94-142 amended by PL 108-446 (Regulations 34CFR parts 300 and 301) and California Laws and Regulations (California Special Education Programs: A Composite of Laws Database). Through collaborative leadership and inclusive practices, the Santa Barbara County SELPA ensures equitable access to high-quality special education services for students with disabilities from birth to age 22. We support local educational agencies by providing expert guidance, resources, and professional development to promote student success and lifelong learning.
