With schools dating back to the 1870s, the award-winning Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) is now the 16th largest school district in California. RUSD educates nearly 42,000 students across 50 schools in Riverside. The District serves a large portion of Riverside as well as the unincorporated areas of Highgrove and Woodcrest. RUSD is led by its 13th Superintendent, Dr. Sonia Llamas and is governed by a Board of Education comprised of publicly elected officials who serve five different trustee areas.

Requirements / Qualifications

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Assistant Superintendent, TK-12 Strategic Initiatives, Innovation and School Transformation serves as a visionary leader and key member of the Superintendent’s Executive Cabinet. This role is unique in its integration of instructional leadership, strategic planning, and community ecosystem building. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for driving the District’s roadmap for the future through the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), while simultaneously ensuring operational excellence by overseeing site Principals, Research, Accountability and Evaluation and State/Federal compliance. Additionally, this leader acts as the primary bridge between the District and the broader community, overseeing the Education Foundation, and family support systems to ensure every student has the resources to thrive.

Education & Certification:
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Administration, or a related field (Doctorate preferred)
  • Valid Administrative Services Credential
  • Valid Teaching Credential


Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful site-level administrative experience (Principalship required)
  • Minimum of 3 years in District-level administration
  • Proven track record of managing complex budgets, specifically LCAP and categorical funding
  • Demonstrated success in building community partnerships and engaging diverse stakeholder groups
