Job Summary
Primary Duties: The Mandarin Instructor will oversee the delivery and be responsible for the creation of a comprehensive, effective and cohesive Mandarin language curriculum. The teaching load consists of one period of Chinese I and one period of Chinese II at a college prep level. The instructor is responsible for lesson planning and presentation, student assessment, and individualized student support as needed. The instructor will need to bring not only fluency and experience in teaching Mandarin, but also a strong and intuitive familiarity with, knowledge of, and appreciation for the cultural aspects of language instruction. Description of Position: A Mandarin/Chinese instructor is part of the World Languages Department that reports to the World Languages Department Chair, and the school’s administrative team (President, Principal and Assistant Principals). Essential Job Functions: • Teaching Mandarin/Chinese Levels I and II (non-heritage) • Create an environment in the classroom and in all areas of co-curricular responsibility that nurtures the development of faith, integrity, and truth. • Design and implement regular formative and summative assessments to measure student learning. • Proficiency in curriculum planning, instruction, and assessment. • Be an active member of our Catholic school community by participating in religious events (Masses, retreats, days of recollection, penance services, etc.) and non-religious events like athletics, performances, rallies, etc. • Chaperone and supervise during the school day and some evenings and weekends. • Meet with students and parents as necessary before and after school.

Requirements/Education and Qualifications: • Fluency in Mandarin is required. • B.A. in related field is required; Master's degree or Teaching Credential preferred • 3-5 years of experience teaching is required; Catholic high school preferred • Strong rapport with students while maintaining healthy boundaries and strong classroom management skills • Sensitivity and understanding of a multi-ethnic and faith campus
