POSITION SUMMARY: Pinewood School seeks a qualified and experienced full-time Upper Campus English Teacher (Grades 9–12) beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will teach two sections of AP Language and Composition and two sections of high school literature, collaborating closely with colleagues to design engaging and challenging course content, and incorporating effective instructional practices and technology to support student learning. RESPONSIBILITIES: -Teach four high school English courses each year, including two sections of AP Language and Composition and two sections of high school literature, with an average class size of fewer than 15 students -Design and deliver engaging lessons, assignments, and assessments that promote critical thinking, discussion, and independent analysis -Collaborate with department colleagues to refine curriculum, share instructional practices, and support student learning -Provide clear feedback and structured skill instruction to support students’ growth as readers, writers, and thinkers -Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning -Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and classroom activities -Participate fully in school life, including advisory responsibilities, supervision, chaperoning, faculty meetings, and school events -Model and uphold Pinewood’s mission and WISCR values: being well-rounded, insightful and critical thinkers, self-motivated, clear communicators, and respectful individuals

Requirements / Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: -Ability to spend long hours sitting while using computers and office equipment -Ability to climb stairs -Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally QUALIFICATIONS: -Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field required; Master’s degree and/or a valid teaching credential highly desired -Minimum of three years of experience teaching high school English (experience teaching at an independent school is a plus) -Experience teaching AP English courses, particularly AP Language and Composition, strongly preferred -Demonstrated ability to teach writing as a distinct discipline, including grammar, composition, and vocabulary development -Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and classroom management skills -Comfort integrating technology into instruction; Pinewood is a 1:1 iPad school -Commitment to professional growth and ongoing learning -Flexibility and willingness to contribute to the broader life of the school community

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The annual salary range for this position is $86,000 – $152,000, based on education and years of teaching experience. Pinewood offers comprehensive benefits to employees.
