Salary: The Hourly Range: $54.27 to $86.76

Doctorate Range: $63.95 to $89.04

Part Time Faculty office Hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

The successful candidate will join the Accommodations & Support Services department that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level coursework related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:

(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or

(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military, or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent

Desirable Qualifications

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS

• Experience in community college-based grant funded programs and/or categorical programs.

• Competence in current professional principles, practices and techniques for counseling.

• Experience in counseling community college students from traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds, students with disabilities, Veterans, and/or single parents.

• Ability to use available technologies and classroom assessment instruments/techniques, and the ability to provide effective interpretation to faculty and administrators.

• Demonstrated ability to teach counseling courses and facilitate workshops, orientations, and seminars

• Ability to conduct and develop educational workshops; educational plans, CSU/UC applications, TAG, and Advising.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated knowledge of counseling approaches for students to compensate for educational limitations posed by specific disabilities

• Evidence of knowledge of state and federal guidelines regarding academic accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

• At least two years of counseling experience (either full-time or the equivalent to fulltime) at a higher education institution, within the last six years

• Experience counseling students about community college options, including certificates, associate degrees, and/or transferring to four-year institutions

• Knowledge and experience in interpreting IEPs, medical, psychological, and rehabilitation reports

• Familiarity with and ability to interpret policies specific to ASC populations including ADA, CCCCO, and educational planning

• Sensitivity to issues (career, personal, social) faced by ASC students as well as first-generation, underrepresented, and non-traditional college students

• Knowledge of and interest in implementing technology-enhanced services.

• Willingness to participate in Student Services (Rise Up, Puente Program, Umoja, Summer Bridge, athletic counseling, etc.)

• Experience in working with culturally diverse student populations (teaching or other situations in a leadership role)

• Awareness and commitment to the philosophy and objectives of the California Community College.

• Proficiency in the use of word processing, data collection, and spreadsheet software. Ability to use the Internet as an information resource.

• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

• Commitment to shared governance culture, consensus building, and a team approach to serving students.

• Sensitivity to the needs, problems, and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population, especially those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.

Example of Duties

GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Part of the counseling assignment may be online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Under the general supervision of the Dean of Student Services, the ASC Counselor’s responsibilities include:

• Provide personalized academic, career, and personal counseling (face-to-face and/or remote) helping students primarily in the ASC and Veterans population make effective decisions in pursuit of their academic, career, and personal goals.

• Determine disability verification through observation and or analysis of medical and psychological documentation.

• Keep abreast of changing degree, certificate, transfer, and ASC information in order to advise students about the most current requirements and train other counselors

• Provide ASC students with information regarding resources, opportunities, and assistance available to them in the college and in the community including procedures for enrollment, assessment, financial aid academic progress

• Teach Individualized Instruction & Services (IIS) courses

• Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (i.e., grades, syllabi, attendance reports), including ASC mandated reports focusing on Title 5 and other regulations

• Participate in the district’s and academic senate’s participatory governance processes and committees.

• Lead group presentations including student-interest workshops and seminars, orientations, group advising, and other matriculation functions.

• Coordinate student success initiatives in the ASC program.

• Serve as liaison for ASC related issues to academic and career technical education departments, student services, and instructional faculty.

• Participate in program review and development and assessment of service area outcomes

• Collaboration and liaison to Department of Rehabilitation Counselors;

• Willingness to collaboration with various units on campus, such as general counseling, student health center, tutoring center, to ensure the efficiency of services provided to ASC students

• Implementation of innovative approaches to better serve students.

• Participate in ongoing professional development activities related to ASC and in the field of counseling.

• Serve as a resource on both Modesto Junior College campuses on issues related to the ASC population.

• Engage in other activities (such as community outreach) as requested by the Dean of Student Services.

• Adherence to all district policies and procedures is expected.
