DIRECTOR - SECONDARY EDUCATION
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, provides leadership in the areas of curriculum and instruction, program monitoring, and co-curricular events. Assists with district curriculum development, textbooks, instructional materials, and technology resources selection process, and implementation. Ensures alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment with state content standards, national, state and local assessments, and other duties as assigned. Coordinates Secondary College and Career focus areas as determined by the district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide research-based leadership in decisions effecting curriculum, instruction and assessment;
- Stays current in educational research best-practices in curriculum and instruction and shares that information with others;
- Assists secondary curriculum teams;
- Advises in development of district, school federal and state plans,
- Provides leadership in aligning funding sources with priorities related to Secondary College and Career focus areas;
- Assist in identifying additional funding opportunities and developing proposals and applications;
- Provides leadership in designing the instructional delivery models to best support the curriculum, such as master schedule, design block schedule and other alternative methods of school day organization
- Assist sites in using data to better inform instructional decisions making;
- Prepare a variety of reports, including assessment analysis, demographic reports and evaluation reports for district decision-makers;
- Prepare reports, summaries, analyses as requested by the Superintendent;
- Make presentations to the Governing Board, district leadership, community;
- Coordinates district secondary grading standards, policies, procedures and formats;
- Attend local and state meetings and professional development to support professional responsibilities;
- Oversees implementation of all 6-8, 9-12 curriculum and instruction
- Oversees implementation of LCAP programs in 6-8, 9-12 schools as assigned
- Oversees all Curriculum Council submissions 6-12
- Provides mentoring to all 6-8, 9-12 comprehensive principals that have 3 or fewer years of service
- Provides first point of contact support for principals 6-8, 9-12 (comprehensive)
- Oversees Counseling Services 6-8, 9-12
- Oversees UC a-g Course Submission
- Coordinates NCAA Clearinghouse Submission with High School Counselors
- Oversees District Music Services 6-12
- Coordinates District Activities and Events for 6-12
- Oversees and Coordinates College and Career Services 6-12
- Provides liaison and coordination services for college and university 9-12
- Oversees LCAP programs as assigned
- Oversees textbook and materials adoptions 6-12
- Oversees Summer School 6-12 as needed
- Responsible for improved and measurable student outcomes in secondary schools (6-12)
and effectively developing a collaborative oversight plan that includes feedback and coaching to 6-12 secondary principals - Responsible for evaluating principals under the direction of the Superintendent or an assigned member of Cabinet
- Oversees Report Cards 6-12
- Oversees Flyer approvals for 6-12

EDUCATION
Completion of a Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, possession of a valid credential, authorizing service as a secondary level administrator.
EXPERIENCE
Five or more years of administrative service at District or site level Three years of teaching or related certificated experience. Must have experience as a comprehensive middle or high school site principal.
