Temporary 2026 summer position for 5 camp sessions (grades PreK-5) for weeks of: June 15th-19th, June 22nd-26th, July 13th-17th, July 20th-24th, July 27th-31st About the Role San Domenico Explorers Summer Camp seeks enthusiastic, responsible Camp Counselors to support a safe, joyful, and engaging outdoor experience for children ages 4–10. Counselors work with experienced educators to lead daily activities, build positive camper relationships, and help create an inclusive camp community. The camp spans a large campus with a one-acre organic garden and miles of forested trails. Campers rotate through hands-on activities including gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, hiking, team-building games, and nature exploration, all designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and connection to the natural world. This role is ideal for high school and college students on summer break who enjoy working outdoors and inspiring young learners.
Requirements / Qualifications
Key Responsibilities Ensure camper safety and well-being by maintaining attentive supervision, supporting positive behavior, and fostering a respectful, inclusive camp environment. Collaborate with fellow staff to create a supportive and nurturing atmosphere, assist with daily operations, and contribute to a strong, cooperative team culture. Lead and engage campers in outdoor activities, including nature games, group challenges, songs, and skits that build community and encourage participation. Support Camp instructors by assisting with hands-on activities such as gardening, environmental exploration, crafts, and outdoor learning projects. Help set up and maintain activity areas, ensuring materials are organized, spaces are clean, and equipment is safely stored at the end of each session. Model curiosity and stewardship by encouraging respect for the natural environment and helping campers develop a connection to each other and the outdoors. Qualifications Experience with children and outdoor education preferred First Aid/CPR preferred Must be 18 years or older Must be comfortable being outside all day in warm conditions
Schedule/Compensation Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM Mandatory Training: June 12 (for June staff) and July 10 (for July staff). The hourly range for this position is: $18.00-24.00/hour. This position is nonexempt, which is eligible for paid overtime in accordance with applicable state and federal law. Final placement within this range is commensurate with a candidate’s specific experience and qualifications; typically, those with fewer years of experience can expect placement toward the lower end of the scale. As a temporary summer employee, this position is ineligible for most school benefits. Lunch and snacks are provided daily.
