Job Summary

The Groundskeeper Lead is responsible for supervising the grounds staff and overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of all landscaped areas, green spaces, and planter boxes on campus. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Facilities, this position performs all duties of a Groundskeeper while providing leadership, coordination, and oversight of daily operations. The Groundskeeper Lead ensures campus grounds are safe, well-maintained, and visually appealing, while modeling teamwork, integrity, and Christian character consistent with the mission of Village Christian School.

Requirements / Qualifications

A high school diploma is preferred but not required. Candidates must have a working knowledge of landscaping equipment and irrigation systems, including mowers, edgers, trimmers, and blowers. A valid California Class C Driver’s License is required for operation of campus vehicles. Prior Lead Groundskeeper experience is preferred. The position requires the ability to bend, reach, climb ladders or stairs, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, follow all safety procedures, and work overtime or weekends as needed. A commitment to exemplifying Christian ideals and maintaining a cooperative spirit is essential.

Upon hire, employees must provide documentation verifying authorization to work in the United States (I-9), complete required background checks and Live Scan fingerprinting as applicable, and provide a copy of a valid California Driver’s License. Additional documentation such as TB clearance and a signed faith statement may be required in accordance with school policy and state regulations.

The Groundskeeper Lead supervises and coordinates daily tasks of the grounds staff; schedules and assigns work in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Facilities; trains staff on proper equipment usage and ensures adherence to safety and PPE requirements; maintains lawns, shrubs, planters, gutters, and drainage systems; repairs and maintains irrigation systems; supports event setup; maintains off-site facilities as directed; reports safety concerns; and performs all standard groundskeeping duties. The role requires leadership, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. This is a full-time, 12-month position, 40 hours per week. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This position reports directly to the Assistant Facilities Manager.
