Job Summary
The Elementary Substitute Teacher is responsible for implementing lesson plans and maintaining classroom continuity in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position provides instruction, manages the classroom environment, and ensures a safe, orderly, and Christ-centered learning atmosphere aligned with the philosophy and mission of Village Christian School. The substitute teacher supports students academically and behaviorally while maintaining professionalism and instructional consistency throughout the school day.
Requirements / Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree (four-year degree) is required. Prior experience working with students is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate effective classroom management skills, the ability to follow written lesson plans, strong communication skills, and a commitment to modeling Christian character. A valid teaching credential is preferred but not required unless otherwise specified by assignment.
Applicants must submit a completed employment application and resume reflecting educational background and relevant experience. Upon hire, employees must provide documentation verifying authorization to work in the United States (I-9), complete required background checks and Live Scan fingerprinting, and provide proof of degree. Additional documentation such as TB clearance and a signed faith statement may be required in accordance with school policy and state regulations.

The Elementary Substitute Teacher follows the lesson plans provided by the regular teacher; instructs students in assigned classes at designated times and locations; maintains classroom order and a positive learning environment; enforces school rules and administrative policies; safeguards students, materials, and equipment; reports to the principal or designee at the beginning and end of the school day; and performs additional duties as assigned. The position requires flexibility, sound judgment, classroom management skills, and alignment with the mission of Village Christian School.
This is a part-time, exempt position. Compensation ranges from $75 – $150 per day and is dependent upon whether the assignment is a full-day or half-day placement.
This position reports directly to the Elementary Principal.
