Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing high school students for future careers in the field of Law Enforcement or Crime Scene Investigation (CSI). This includes teaching students about various roles in law enforcement and CSI, the skills and qualifications required for these roles, and the current trends and issues in the law enforcement and CSI sector. The instructor will also guide students in exploring different career paths in law enforcement and CSI and help them understand the impact they can make in their communities as law enforcement officers or CSI professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law enforcement and CSI, practical, hands-on experience in crime scene processing, including evidence collection, documentation, and analysis, excellent teaching skills, knowledge of forensic science principles, criminal justice procedures, and chain of custody protocols, experience working in a forensic or law enforcement capacity to provide students with authentic insights into CSI careers, and a passion for inspiring the next generation of law enforcement and CSI professionals. In addition, the instructor will be expected to team teach, collaborating with another Law Enforcement/CSI instructor to provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary learning experience for students. This approach will allow students to see the connections between different fields and understand how the skills they learn can be applied in various contexts. The successful candidate will be committed to fostering a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement, supports diversity and inclusion, and promotes the values of the CalAPS program. Experience in a similar role and a teaching credential are preferred. Hours: 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. (Monday/Wednesday)
Requirements / Qualifications
Appropriate CTE or Designated Subjects teaching credential or eligibility for appropriate credential. Candidates without a credential must have 3 years’ experience within the field. CalAPS will assist individuals in obtaining the preliminary credential provided the candidate can prove applicable proof of experience. Credential cost will be reimbursed by CalAPS. Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required. One (1) of the three (3) years of the required experience must be within the last five (5) years, or two (2) years within the last ten (10) years.
