Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • High school diploma or G.E.D. from an accredited institution. • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Basic POST Certificate (Peace Officer Standards and Training). • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field is desirable. • Eight (8) years of law enforcement experience, including at least two (2) years in a management or supervisory role at the rank of Sergeant or higher. • Proven experience with community-oriented policing in a culturally diverse community is desirable. • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that meet minimum qualifications may be considered. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Must maintain P.O.S.T. physical standards, including mobility and physical strength and stamina to respond to emergency situations and apprehend suspects. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull items up to 100 lbs. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle; vision to maintain firearms qualification. Must be able to read printed materials and computer screen, discern colors, and work in a night setting. Hear and speak to exchange information in person, or on the telephone. Possess dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Stand, walk, run, bend at the waist, kneel or crouch, and be able to climb a stool or ladder.
