JOB TITLE: SENIOR ACCOUNT CLERK II - PAYROLL

Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent, Business (or designee)

BASIC FUNCTION:Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent Business (or designee), performs a varietyof complex clerical work involving maintenance and support of various financial and payrollfunctions.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:• Performs a variety of technical payroll accounting duties to assure employees are paid inan accurate and timely manner including salary corrections and deductions.• Posts, assembles, tabulates, computes, compares, and files financial data.• Reconciles health and welfare monthly billings to ensure accuracy and timely paymentto carriers.• Reconciles and processes quarterly payroll tax returns.• Maintains and monitors employee earnings for reporting purposes.• Provides discreet and confidential payroll information as authorized by subpoena orsupervisors, to outside agencies or other departments within the district.• Applies standard formula and uses predetermined guides to monitor adherence to laws,policies, and good accounting procedures• Enrolls, adds, or deletes employees into payroll systems.• Enters various data into financial databases including any payroll deductions and leaves.• Applies certificated and/or classified bargaining agreements as necessary.• Prepares, reviews, audits, and analyzes payroll data.• Maintain records of mandatory and voluntary deductions; reconcile deduction warrantswith statements.• Answers correspondence and inquiries regarding assignment data.• Prepares reports utilizing computer spreadsheet applications.• Assists other Business Department personnel as needed.• Assists in the development of department procedures and policies.• Attends in-service, trainings, and meetings as directed.• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:• Modern office procedures, methods, equipment, technology, and software includingword processing, data bases, and spreadsheets used in general clerical, technicalaccounting and statistical activities.• Principles and procedures of accounting.• Local, state and federal laws related to payroll. • Appropriate English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.• Basic arithmetic functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.• Proper telephone techniques and etiquette.

Ability to:• Understand and follow both written and oral directions, work rules, and procedures.• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with others using tact, patience, andcourtesy.• Work under considerable pressure of deadlines and work volume; work independentlyusing sound judgement.• Meet schedules and timelines.• Perform mathematical calculations and verify computations with accuracy and speed;prepare accurate financial and statistical statements, summaries and reports.• Learn policies and procedures of assigned programs and activities.• Operate 10-key calculator.• File, post, and check records and figures rapidly and accurately.• Use word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.• Operate a computer and related software; send and receive emails.• Prepare needed and requested information for district staff.• Sit for extended periods of time.• Learn and adapt to new procedures, systems and policies.• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.• Initiate and answer calls providing information.• Understand, be sensitive to and respect the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic,religious, and cultural backgrounds, disabilities, and sexual orientation of staff, students,and the public who may be encountered as part of any working assignment.• Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:Education: High school diploma, or equivalent. Coursework in accounting and bookkeeping.Two (2) years of college in a related field desirable.

Experience Required: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in office clerical workincluding typing, fiscal input/monitoring, and/or computer data entry.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Testing Required: TB test clearance, pre-employment physicaland drug testing, Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance, word processing at 45 wpm.
