Job Summary

Instructional Assistant Special Ed II BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely, physically or visually handicapped students in a classroom; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; assist students in developing various self-help, social and community skills. Intensive Behavior Interventions Assistant BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned Special Education Manager, assist a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of special education students in a variety of educational settings including the home, community and classroom.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Instructional Assistant Special Education II: High School Diploma or equivalent and six months of working with students in special education. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: • Pass equivalent academic assessment test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics or reading, writing, and mathematics readiness. • Obtain valid CPR certification within 6 months after hire and renew as required. Intensive Behavior Interventions Assistant: High School Diploma or equivalent and one year experience working with students in special education and satisfactory completion of a proficiency examination. LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A valid California’s driver’s license and proof of current and appropriate auto insurance coverage. Valid First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certificate required. TRAINING: Forty (40) hours of Intensive Behavior Intervention training must be successfully completed within the first 3 months of employment.
