Job Summary

Position located at: MULE CREEK STATE PRISON Job Description and Duties Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), the Supervisor of Academic Instruction (SAI) has the responsibility to assist in the planning, development and implementation of programs; on-site monitoring and evaluation of academic curriculum; and reviewing educational processes and making recommendations on teaching materials and instructional methods. Additionally, the SAI assists with academic teacher hiring, staff development, and program implementation. The SAI participates with educational and custodial staff in finding effective solutions to educational problems, the development of timely resolutions, and in the identification of exemplary educational procedures.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid standard administration or supervision credential or a credential or life diploma of equivalent authorization issued under authority of the Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing. (Applicants who do not possess the required credential will be admitted to the examination, but must secure the credential before they will be considered eligible for appointment.) and Two years of administrative, supervisory, or academic teaching experience in an elementary or a secondary school system. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: Principles, methods, and procedures of academic school organization and administration; principles and practices of modern education including remedial teaching techniques and the education of exceptional students; principles and techniques of classroom instruction as applied to teaching in a State correctional facility; purposes and organization of State educational programs and related agencies; principles and techniques of educational and vocational guidance and counseling; causes, extent, and treatment of crime and delinquency; principles and techniques of clinical and child psychology and social casework; principles of educational psychology and sociology; principles of effective supervision; Department's Affirmative Action Program objectives; a manager's role in the Affirmative Action Program and the processes available to meet affirmative action objectives.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you should include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position.
