Requirements / Qualifications

Those applying for the Interpreter position must be certified by: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), The American Consortium of Certified Interpreters (ACCI) level 4+, OR NAD Certification, level 4+. Those applying for the Instructional Assistant (signing) position must have previously passed the District's sign language assessment. Possession of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and one of the following: 1) completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or 2) possession of an associate degree or higher; or 3) passing a rigorous assessment that demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting State and Federal requirements. Applicants may be exempt from taking the NCLB examination if they provide college transcripts verifying 48 units or more in core subject area courses with a grade of "C" or better. Transcripts must be submitted with application. If an applicant does not possess enough units to be exempt, he/she must attach to their application a letter requesting an examination date.

You must be available to work the entire summer program for which you apply; otherwise, you will not be considered for the position. Merit Rule 6.200.6 Appointment to summer school, extended school year and intersession positions shall be made in this priority: a) Employees who have worked in the classification, have successfully met the expectations of the class, and maintained necessary licenses or other requirements of the assignment. b) Qualified employees working in other related classifications and successfully met the expectations of those classes, and maintained necessary licenses or other requirements of the assignment. c) Qualified employees working in non-related classifications but who meet the minimum requirements of the classification for the assignment so as to provide evidence of ability to perform in such assignment. d) Qualified persons not currently employed by the District in a regular-status position but meet the requirements of the classification for the assignment. e) Qualified persons not currently employed by the District but meet the requirements of the classification for the assignment.
