BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the site Principal, provide an educational program for pupils in grades TK-8 or a combination thereof; assist in other school programs as assigned.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education and music to pupils in a classroom implementing the District adopted curriculum, goals and objectives and instructing pupils in other areas as specified by the Governing Board. (E)
Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the District. (E)
Provides individualized and small group instruction through planned instructional materials and activities which serve to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. (E)
Outlines units of study and develops lesson plans as requested to best utilize the allotted time for instruction. (E)
Establishes and maintains high standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. (E)
Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. (E)
Communicates with parents through a variety of means; holds parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual pupil's progress. (E)
Identifies pupils' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. (E)
Provides and maintains a functional and creative environment for learning through use of facilities, materials and equipment. (E)
Performs pupil attendance reporting as required. (E)
Assists in carrying out a program of information and communication as a means of interpreting the school program to the community. (E)
Maintains own professional competence through participation in District, regional or state sponsored in-service activities.
Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
Assists with distribution, completion and collection of District forms, questionnaires, and bulletins regarding pupils enrolled in the class.
Ensures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting and ventilation to the extent possible.
Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Administers group standardized tests in accordance with District testing program.
Participates in curriculum programs and staff meetings within the school of assignment and/or on a District level.
Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committee work.
Plans and coordinates the work of classroom assistants and volunteers when applicable.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. Previous experience teaching primary grades is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Teaching Credential with appropriate authorizations.

DETAILS FOR 2025-26 PRIMARY TEACHER HIRING POOL: Spencer Valley Elementary School District in San Diego County is seeking qualified individuals for positions in grades TK through Grade 3 for the coming school year LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 185 Day School Year Calendar BENEFITS: Benefit package includes employee health and vision benefits, paid sick leave. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLYING: Possess a California multiple subject, supplementary authorization(s) and/or single subject teaching credential in core subject areas by July 1, 2025. Out-of-State applicants must have a corresponding license and obtain the appropriate California Credential and English Learner Authorization. Applicants currently enrolled in a credential program must attach a letter from the university program stating enrollment and anticipated credential type and issuance date. Required application attachments are listed below and must be attached to submitted application. Current valid California Teaching Credential and an English Learner Authorization/CLAD and/or Bilingual Authorization. TK teachers must meet SB876 requirements: At least 24 units in early childhood education, or childhood development, or both. As determined by the local educational agency employing the teacher, professional experience in a classroom setting with preschool age children that is comparable to the 24 units of education described in bullet 1. A child development teacher permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
