DEFINITION Under general supervision, to perform paraprofessional instructional activities in the classroom and outside play area; to assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences for individual or small groups of students in assigned programs or grades/subjects; to supervise students; to perform supportive clerical tasks for students and school personnel; to assist in maintaining safe and healthy school and classroom environments, and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Positions assigned to this class may be found in a variety of school settings. Incumbents are expected to learn student supervision and instructional techniques for the specific area of school service to which assigned, such as special education, special needs, ELL, Title I, bilingual, general classroom, physical education, preschool, and campus assignments. Duties encompass a wide range of supportive tasks for students and staff in the program to which assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and one of the following: 1) completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester units); or 2) obtained an associate degree (or higher); or 3) take the Etiwanda School District Paraprofessional Exam, a rigorous local academic assessment test. (This would be offered to all qualified candidates in lieu of 1, 2 and 4). 4) Chaffey Adult School Paraprofessional certificate accepted.

Employees may work one-on-one with learning disabled students assisting them with appropriate conduct and learning experiences as assigned by the teacher. This position could also require the instructional aide to help in meeting the health and hygiene needs of students. Employees may be exposed to childhood diseases, adverse climatic conditions and anti-social behavior. Upon offer of employment, individuals will need to complete an application for a criminal background clearance through the Department of Justice. Authorization to employ cannot be granted according to state law until the criminal background clearance from DOJ/FBI has been received. *Cost of fingerprinting will be the responsibility of the appointee. Tuberculosis Test (TB): Must furnish certificate showing proof of being free from active tuberculosis (certificate must be within 60 days of offer of employment)
