DEFINITION OF POSITION Translate and produce a variety of general, technical, and legal documents and materials between English and Spanish for the District Office and school sites. Provide oral translation during formal and informal meetings, phone calls and walk-in traffic. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Read, translate and produce a variety of documents and materials, information bulletins, handbooks, correspondence, policies and press releases; produce verbatim translations. Produce idiomatic translation considering the type of material and readers’ viewpoints; determine most accurate meaning and make corrections as needed; review and edit translations by others for accuracy, context, readability and style; research reference materials. Provide oral interpretation for Board meetings, other district and school meetings; attend meetings as necessary; translate and interpret minutes of meetings; abstract or summarize materials. Travel to schools and offices as necessary for the purpose of providing assistance with the more technical and complex translations. Interpret at school IEP, SST and mini-SARB meetings. Translate IEP’s. Maintain District library of Spanish or bilingual forms, documents, policies and materials. Use headphones and microphones during oral translations of meetings and presentations as necessary. May administer and evaluate bilingual assessment of employees. May record oral translation of Board Meetings agendas on Spanish voicemail information line. REQUIREMENTS English and Spanish vocabulary, reading and writing skills equivalent to educated native speaker. Ability to: • Read, speak and write effectively and to express thought between languages, which is structurally, grammatically, and idiomatically correct. • Operate a keyboard in both languages. • Interpret nuances of languages. • Recognize diacritical errors and apply proper formatting to languages.
