Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
General Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the School Programs Director/Principal, the Educational Assistant provides instructional support to students in a classroom setting.

Assignment:
This position will work 35 hours per week and have a school year schedule (220 days). 

Essential Functions/Other Functions 

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide academic assistance to enrolled students.
  2. Supervise groups and work independently with students as directed by the teacher.
  3. Establish behavior management strategies to create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  4. Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
  5. Communicate with students, parents, staff and community partners.
  6. Facilitate student skill building in the areas of personal and social development.

Other Functions:

  1. Maintain accurate data of student enrollment and SPED record management.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or GED.
  3. Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Associate's Degree OR
    • 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university; OR
    • Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR
    • Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR
    • 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree.
  2. Experience with at-risk youth.
  3. Experience with computer-based instruction.
  4. Experience in mental health, juvenile justice or alternative education. 

 

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions:

  1. Classroom setting.
  2. Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
Employment Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
