Job Summary
Two Little Oaks Homeschool, in partnership with California Private Teachers, is seeking an exceptional full-time English Language Arts (ELA) private homeschool teacher to work in a fully individualized, in-person learning environment with a bright, intellectually curious middle school–aged student. This role is ideal for an educator who views teaching as both instruction and mentorship, fostering critical thinking, articulate expression, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. The family values classical education, interdisciplinary thinking, rigorous academics, and intentional instruction that both challenges and inspires. Responsibilities: · Deliver individualized ELA instruction (writing, reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary) · Design a customized curriculum grounded in classic literature with interdisciplinary connections · Lead Socratic discussions, integrating philosophy, logic, rhetoric, and debate · Guide students toward clear, precise, and creative written expression · Teach executive-functioning skills: organization, planning, time management, study strategies, metacognition, self-advocacy · Design assessments (essays, projects, presentations, discussions) and track progress · Communicate regularly with parents and California Private Teachers · Coordinate with other subject instructors to ensure curricular alignment · Support enrichment projects, interest-led learning, and immersive experiences · Model intellectual curiosity, professionalism, humility, and joy in learning
Requirements / Qualifications
Required Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Philosophy, or related field (Master’s preferred) · Minimum 5 years teaching experience (middle/high school preferred) · Demonstrated excellence in teaching writing and literature · Deep familiarity with classic literature · Experience leading Socratic discussions and teaching logic/reasoning · Ability to balance high expectations with warmth, patience, and encouragement · Excellent communication skills and collaborative approach · Ability to commute to or reside near Atherton, CA for in-person instruction Preferred Qualifications: · Valid California Teaching Credential · Homeschool teaching experience · Experience with gifted or advanced learners · Experience designing interdisciplinary or project-based learning
