* * * * * POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED * * * * * * * * * TEMPORARY CONTRACT POSITION AT MARSHALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL * * * * BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Serves as a fully qualified teacher in a Transitional Kindergarten setting, teaching skills and developing knowledge in multiple subjects using Board approved academic standards for transitional kindergarten courses of study that bridge preschool learning foundations and kindergarten standards. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Transitional kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmental appropriate. This is a fully qualified professional position where the teacher is trained to deliver critical components of a transitional kindergarten education to children. Emphasis on: Oral language development, listening comprehension, gross and fine motor skills, hands-on learning and kindergarten readiness skills related to a student’s progress towards attention and focus. This position requires the teacher to deliver subject matter and learning style concepts that enhance student skill and knowledge development. Transitional kindergarten classrooms are not preschool classrooms or child development programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: . California Multiple Subjects Credential. . Must meet ESEA Highly Qualified teacher requirements. . ELL Authorization (CLAD or BCLAD) Education: . Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or Bachelor's Degree with 24 Units in Early Childhood Education, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements from an accredited college or university. Experience: . Three years Kindergarten teaching experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: The position requires specialized knowledge of transitional kindergarten education. Requires a working knowledge of curriculum development. Requires sufficient human relations skills to deliver instruction. Requires knowledge of development of and use of learning aids. Requires a working knowledge of personal computer and multimedia equipment operations including common office productivity software, internet, and computer-aided teaching programs. Requires knowledge of pertinent education code provisions pertaining to the occupation. Requires well-developed oral communications skills to convey concepts in a classroom, lab and community-based setting and work cooperatively with a diverse population of students and parents. Requires professional level writing skills sufficient to prepare class materials, reports, and written support to marketing/promotion efforts.
