CHOWCHILLA UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION: Director, Information Systems DEPARTMENT: District REPORTS TO: Superintendent CLASSIFICATION: Classified Management WORK YEAR: 12 Months BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the (CUHS Administration), plan, organize, control, and direct strategic planning of management information services for the Chowchilla Union High School District (CUHS); direct and support the use of personal computer hardware and software, computer, and computer-related needs of the CUHS Local Area Network and Wide Area Network; direct the operations and maintenance of the CUHS communications network; train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Plan, organize, control, and direct strategic planning of management information services for the Chowchilla Union High School District; direct and support the use of personal computer hardware and software, computer and computer-related needs, Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). • Develop, implement, and manage personal computer, computer network and Internet plans; direct the CUHS Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) and World Wide Web, services standards and strategies. • Recommend and implement systems to address the modification, maintenance, and administration of the CUHS e-mail system, network security, infrastructure maintenance which includes issuing accounts, marinating business continuity, network services, storage retention and resolving problems within the system. • Plan, organize, and implement long- and short-term programs and activities designed to enhance assigned programs and services; identify resource needs related to assigned areas; analyze problems and provide timely and logical solutions. • Provide technical expertise, information, and assistance to the CUHS Administration regarding assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures, and programs to assure an efficient work environment; recommend and implement policies and procedures to meet user needs. • Operate personal computers, computer peripherals, communication equipment, computer networking equipment including hubs, routers, and switches and software and electronic testing equipment; operate other office equipment as assigned; drive a vehicle to various sites to conduct work. • Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned; represent Chowchilla Union High School at appropriate professional meetings in the county, region, and state. • Provide planning and network design strategies and engineering for the installation of Internet and network services for CUHS District. • Maintain the computer systems including: domain name servers, firewalls, e-mail and newsgroup servers, web servers, database servers and support of communication to the CUHS District WAN. • Recommend appropriate software and equipment based on the needs of users and organization goals OTHER DUTIES: • Maintain current knowledge of trends and innovations in the fields of information technology, personal computer and computer networking; review legislation and assure CUHS compliance with rules, regulations and laws. • Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE OF: • Planning, organization, and direction of the Information Systems services. • Computer management and operations, and system administration. • Server operating systems; current versions of Windows Server, Linux, Unix and other operating systems administration as required. • Desktop operating systems. • Computer networking including use and configuration of routers, hubs, switches, configuration, and implementation. • Telecommunications systems and operations. • Computer technology, software design and programming, and software applications. • Oral and written communication skills. • Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and training. • Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures. • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. • Operation of a computer and assigned software. ABILITY TO: • Plan, organize, and administer the Information Systems services and operations. • Plan and implement technology-related projects. • Troubleshoot computer software and hardware. • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and implement recommendations in support of organizational goals. • Assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. • Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. • Operate a computer and assigned office equipment. • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. • Meet schedules and time lines. • Work independently with little direction. • Plan and organize work. • Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports. • Direct the maintenance of a variety of reports and files related to assigned activities. • Commit to carry out CHUS Schools’ policies and procedures in a positive manner. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Any combination equivalent to: Associate Degree in information technology, business administration or a related field and two years increasingly responsible information technology administration experience. • Microsoft and CISCO certifications are preferred LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: • Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license. Incumbents must be insurable by the liability carrier for the CUHS District. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: • Office environment. • Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations. • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. • Seeing to read a variety of materials. • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally. • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching.
