ABOUT THE POSITION 

Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure track - Life Science - Physiology faculty commencing with the Fall 2026 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves instructing lecture and laboratory courses in physiology in the Life Science Department. These courses cover the structure and function of the human body to meet the needs of pre-nursing, physical education, physical therapy, and related fields. This position may also teach other Life Science lecture and lab courses as necessary. The teaching assignment may be at our beautiful state of the art Technical and Trades Campus. Assignments will be fully in person and maybe day, evening or weekend, and are subject to change as needed. Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in any biological science

OR

Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science

OR

the equivalent

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Evidence of previous teaching experience in human physiology, preferably at the community college level.

• Experience with Physiology lab protocols and equipment.

• Evidence of an ability to work with computers, multimedia, and other technologies that are utilized in providing high­ quality instruction.

• Evidence of offering instruction in multiple modalities including online, hybrid, and face-to-face.

• Evidence of the ability to use a variety of culturally relevant teaching strategies that encourage retention, while successfully challenging diverse student populations.

• Evidence of an ability to address the needs of students from developmental through transfer levels, especially those who are under prepared.

• Desire and ability to participate actively in department, division, and college committees, and in the shared governance of Long Beach City College.

• Evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.

• Evidence of understanding and/or experience working with Student Learning Outcome and assessment strategies.

• Evidence of an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Knowledge and interest in the curriculum development.

• Ability to teach at the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) and/or the Trade, Technology, and Community Learning (TTC) campus
