PLEASE NOTE: This is an 11 month, 195 day position. Calendar will be provided upon hiring. Butler Academic Center is a fully accredited compulsory educational program for youth detained in Alameda County's Juvenile Justice Center. Upon completion of their high school diploma or GED, youth have the opportunity to earn transferable college credits via online courses through a partnership with Merritt College. Butler Academic Center partners with Alameda County Probation and social service agencies to educate and foster the youth in our care. They also provide individualized instruction, instructional aides, and special education services.

Requirements / Qualifications

THE POSITION: The job of Paraeducator-Juvenile Court School is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students; and providing clerical support to teacher/s and staff. This job reports to the Assigned Administrator LOCATION: 2500 Fairmont Dr., San Leandro, CA 94578 TYPICAL DUTIES: Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process. Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, listen to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, provide spelling practice, facilitate activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards. Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Communicates with teachers and/or parents, probation officers, county nurses, juvenile officers for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience: Prior experience working with high risk students is desirable. CPR/First Aid Training and Conflict Resolution – willing to obtain if selected. Equivalency: Equivalent combination of education and experience.
