Job Summary
Definition: As a member of an educational and clinical team, the occupational therapist provides assessment and identification of student needs in the area of neurological and orthopedic disorders and fine motor and sensory integration deficits. In consultation and collaboration with parents and Beacon Day School’s interdisciplinary team, develops goals and objectives for consideration in the individualized education program (IEP), develops individual occupational therapy intervention plans, and maintains appropriate documentation and reports. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to: • Evaluates students using standardized tests, observation, and/or clinically derived surveys in areas including perceptual motor skills, motor coordination, sensory development, and muscle strength • Devises a treatment program aimed at improving the identified areas of function, as they relate to the child’s educational needs • Participates in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meeting to develop/update goals and objectives and is responsible for providing direct service and/or consultation toward meeting the established goals • Documents findings, actions taken, and/or recommendations made regarding area of service; maintains and organizes records as required by the Department, and identified by program needs • Acts as liaison to Beacon Day School staff, physicians, parents, district personnel, and other agencies in implementing a treatment plan, providing collaborative and consulting services. • Provides training for staff in area of specialty, and participates in local and state presentations as necessary • Assess for, update, and maintain student durable medical equipment • Consults with district personnel for the use and maintenance of student Assistive Technology • Supervises COTA and COTA students in internship program • Re-evaluate students’ individual occupation therapy pla
Requirements / Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy Valid California Occupational Therapy License

Comments and Other Information
Certification with the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy is desired.
Valid registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Special Education and / or school experience is strongly preferred.
