Job Summary

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher provides full-time virtual instructional coverage for California Online Public Schools when teachers are on leave. Working from a home office, this role supports students across all grade bands by delivering live lessons, monitoring progress, maintaining communication with families, and ensuring continuity of instruction. Assignments typically will be a minimum of one (1) month up to five (5) months. During the duration of an assignment the substitute teacher will be expected to work full-time (40 hours a week). Substitute teachers work under the guidance of instructional leadership and collaborate closely with school teams to uphold high academic expectations and student success.

Requirements / Qualifications

Valid California Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential in Math, Science, English, Social Studies or Special Education. For Special Education assignments you must have Autism Spectrum Disorders Authorization. English Learner authorization. Must currently reside in California. Strong communication skills and comfort with technology and virtual learning platforms. Experience working with diverse student populations.

Comments and Other Information

Rate of Pay: $225 (General Education) $250 (Special Education) On occasion, overtime may be offered based on operational needs and must be approved in advance by your supervisor. Benefits: Substitute teachers will accrue one sick day for every 20 days of work. Sick days may only be used on days for which you have accepted an assignment. Medical benefits are not offered to substitute staff. Vacation and holiday pay are not offered to substitute staff. SparkHire digital interviews will be sent on a rolling basis to candidates who meet the requirements. Interviews will be held at the end of January. Please note: We cannot accept applications from candidates holding temporary county certificates, out-of-state credentials, intern credentials, expired credentials, emergency or short-term staff permits, or credentials that are still in process. Applicants must meet all credential requirements at the time of application to be considered. If selected for the position, candidates will be asked to complete a background check. Our office will be closed for Winter Break from December 22, 2025 – January 2, 2026, returning on January 5, 2026.
