Welcome to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District website. We are the largest school district in Santa Barbara County with about 17,500 pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. BASIC FUNCTION SALARY RANGE: Range 44 Under the direction of the assigned supervisor and as an integral member of the school site team, the Community School Specialist collaborates with the Community Schools Coordinator, staff, families, and community partners to foster student success, strengthen family engagement, and promote an inclusive, welcoming school environment. The Community School Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the community school strategy, serving as the school’s “community organizer” by cultivating strong relationships, coordinating services, and leading collaborative initiatives. The Community School Specialist ensures the school serves as a central hub of support, connecting students, families, and the broader community to a continuum of resources, services, and opportunities.
Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: ? Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, behavioral sciences, counseling, education, or a related field. o Alternative Education Qualification Pathway: A minimum of five (5) years of a combination of college education, training, and relevant professional experience that demonstrates the applicant is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered in lieu of a college degree. ? Three (3) or more years of professional experience in non-profit, educational, mental health, social work, community organizing, or related support organizations. ? Successful program management experience in human services, education, business services, or other related settings (preferred). ? Demonstrated cultural competence, including an understanding of and sensitivity to cultural diversity and other social identities such as social class. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS ? Possession of a valid California Drivers’ License, and use of a vehicle; Insurability by the District’s liability insurance carrier.
