The Orthopedic Impairment (OI) and Home Instruction Specialist provides specialized educational assessment, instruction, and consultative services to students with orthopedic impairments and/or students with exceptional needs who are placed on home instruction due to medical, behavioral health, or other documented reasons across the SELPA's member districts. This dual-focus, itinerant role ensures that students with physical disabilities and those receiving home instruction have continuous access to the curriculum and are provided with necessary specialized instructional supports, adaptations, and accommodations in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Requirements / Qualifications
GUSD requires applicants to have: 1. Credential: Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with Added Authorization in Orthopedic Impairment (OI) or Education Specialist – Physical and Health Impairments (PHI) Credential. And valid Possession of a valid Education Specialist Instruction Credential (e.g., Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe, or equivalent authorization) relevant to the age/disability of the students served is also highly desirable. 2. Education: Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field preferred. 3. Experience: Experience working with a pediatric population with diverse orthopedic/neurological conditions is highly desirable. GUSD is seeking dynamic educators who exhibit: - Knowledge of Impairments: Comprehensive knowledge of various neuromotor, musculoskeletal, and orthopedic impairments (e.g., cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy) and their functional/educational implications for learning. - Instructional Expertise: Expertise in developing and implementing effective instructional and behavioral management strategies for students in a one-on-one itinerant setting, and techniques for adapting curriculum and materials for students with physical disabilities. - Assessment & IEPs: Ability to conduct comprehensive educational assessments and translate findings into practical, measurable IEP goals, and ensure compliance. - Collaboration: Strong ability to communicate technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders and work effectively as a collaborative team member with medical personnel, therapists, parents, and school staff. - Organization: Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills to effectively manage a multi-site, itinerant caseload and complex schedules. Independence: Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
