Job Summary

Job Summary

Under supervision, support VAPA teachers and other VAPA personnel within SBHSD to assist in implementing and developing the VAPA pathways to improve student performance and outcomes. The incumbent provides specific instructional support to VAPA teachers and is responsible for assisting groups of students in various curriculum clusters. Performs the full range of instructional assistant duties and responsibilities, applying artistic and performance-based experience and training to support student learning. VAPA Instructional Assistants work under the day-to-day guidance of the certified staff member(s) supported and under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Instructional Programs or Designee. Teachers provide specific guidance and general oversight of instructional support. The VAPA Instructional Aide works directly with students, helps prepare instructional materials, manages classroom equipment, and provides additional support to ensure a productive and enriching learning environment. Instructional Assistants are responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures that govern their work and their interaction with students, teachers, parents, and community members.

Training, Experience and Educational Requirements: • Experience either paid or unpaid, working with children in an instructional or supervisory capacity; or • Experience as a parent or volunteer experience with a youth organization or group is regarded as qualifying; • education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of: • Basic knowledge of various art techniques, mediums, and tools. • Basic knowledge of various performance techniques (music, drama or dance). • May be required to be certified or to become certified in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of a defibrillator with training provided by the District.
