Job Summary
The special education teacher designs and implements individualized education programs for students with autism, ages TK–22, in a non-public school setting under the direction of the Director. This role includes assessment, supervision, and program planning; monitoring and evaluating student progress toward IEP goals and reduction of problem behavior; and identifying and developing instructional materials and protocols that promote skill acquisition, student success, and independence in the school environment. The teacher utilizes a variety of teaching methodologies grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis and positive programming and works collaboratively with the entire campus team to support an effective, rewarding experience for both students and staff.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Work directly with children with autism using designated curricula and assessments to meet individualized needs. * Implement and adapt lesson plans and curriculum to support each student’s goals, needs, and IEP objectives. * Use evidence-based teaching methodologies and positive programming to promote learning and skill acquisition. * Monitor student progress through observation, data review, and probes, adjusting instruction with the classroom team. * Support, supervise, and provide guidance to classroom staff to ensure high-quality instruction and professional growth. * Support and model appropriate behavior using positive reinforcement and least-restrictive strategies consistent with behavior intervention plans. * Assist students with personal care needs (toileting, feeding, hygiene) and reinforce health and safety routines throughout the day. * Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment and prepare materials for individualized activities. * Collaborate with parents, DIS providers, ancillary departments (BCBA, OT, Speech), and agency representatives to support student outcomes. * Participate as an active member of an interdisciplinary team and perform related duties in accordance with organizational policies.
Minimum Education or Training Equivalent to: * 90 semester units from a regionally accredited four-year college/university, required * Bachelor’s degree, preferred * Moderate/Severe Teaching Credential, preferred Minimum Additional Related Experience: - Experience with varied teaching methodologies (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, TEACCH, PECS), preferred - In good standing with CCTC and other licensing/certification boards related to the position as an Special Education Teacher * Level II/2/Cleared Moderate/Severe Credential * Level II/2/Cleared Mild/Moderate Credential with AAA Specialization * Level II/2/Cleared Mild/Moderate Credential with embedded autism supports * Level I Moderate/Severe Credential – Valid * Level I Mild/Moderate Credential AAA Specialization - Valid * Level I Mild/Moderate Credential with embedded autism supports - Valid * Moderate/Severe Intern * Mild/Moderate Intern * Current enrollment in Special Education Program (in good standing) with course units/holds BA to obtain a Short-Term Staff Permit (STSP)
