DEFINITION OF POSITION Under the direction of the site administrator(s), the visual arts teacher provides instruction in the subjects required by the district and authorized by credential(s), utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and appropriate learning activities, guides, textbooks and other instructional materials provided by the district. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES The following are typical duties and responsibilities for positions in this classification. Any single position may or may not perform all of these tasks, and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed below. Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and/or three-dimensional art to students, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Governing Board and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content. Assists students to develop competence in subject area (visual arts). Provides instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgements about art. Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, modeling, using standard and/or teacher-prepared instructional techniques. Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids; encourages students to develop their special talents. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. Provides opportunities for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
