Under the direction of the Director of Special Education or designee, the program specialist supports the operations of the special education department and the general education departments within areas related to special education.
Requirements / Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Employer Requirements: Two years administration and/or supervision experience required. A minimum of three years successful experience as a special education teacher or related services provider required. A valid, current, Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe level 2 California state teaching credential, speech-language pathology services credential or pupil personnel services credential required. A relevant Master’s degree related to the position desired. A valid, current, and appropriate California state Administrative Services Credential or proof of enrollment an Administrative Services Credential Program. A copy of all Credentials to be provided and kept current. Failure to renew credentials may result in termination of the at-will employment agreement. Experience in and ability to utilize a wide range of educational assessments strategically, systematically, and flexibility. Experience assessing the academic, vocational and transitional needs of students grades Tk-12. Experience in professional development creation and implementation. Knowledge of specialized curriculum and IDEA/Cal Ed Code aligned administrative practices. Demonstrate a growth mindset and the ability to use feedback to refine practices. State Requirements: UPON HIRE Hold and maintain a valid California Driver’s License; proof of automobile insurance State and federal background clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Education Code Section 44237). No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received and Human Resources notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance. Proof of a clear TB test dated within the last 60 days (Education Code Section 49406) upon employment and thereafter updated every four years.
