Requirements / Qualifications

DESCRIPTION Provides targeted intervention support across the TK-6 grade span. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties Related to the Instructional Program: • Plans programs that meet requirements of District and State guidelines. • Diagnoses learning needs of individual pupils. • Utilizes teaching strategies that are student centered in design and plans an appropriate instructional program to meet the diagnosed needs of each pupil. • Keep accurate records of diagnosis, plans, and achievements of pupils. • Selects appropriate teaching techniques, materials, and resources. • Selects motivational techniques that inspire confidence and provide impetus to the learning process. • Evaluates plans in terms of individual progress of pupils. • Keep pupils, teachers, and parents informed about individual progress of pupils within a framework of District policy. • Utilizes available personnel resources. Duties Related to Learning Environment and Classroom Management: • Understanding of CA Standards for the Teaching Profession. • Utilizes a wide variety of teaching materials and resources for pupil use. • Creates a classroom environment in which the pupils: - Are interested in their work. - Respect their own dignity and worth and that of their fellow students. - Are learning to solve their problems through a variety of appropriate techniques. - Are growing in self discipline. - Are learning to work effectively as individuals. - Are learning to work effectively in groups. - Exhibit socially acceptable behavior. - Display loyalty and pride in their class and in their school. • Develops methods of communicating with and among students that allow for interpretation, understanding, and free exchange of ideas. • Maintains school standards in classroom and throughout the school. • Respects the belief and background of students. • Has a supportive, accepting attitude toward all children. • Develops student respect for private and public property.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Holds a valid and current Multiple Subject Clear Credential. • Bachelor’s Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. • Minimum of two years of successful teaching experience. • Meets District standards for physical and mental health. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS • Depth of training in one or more areas of the elementary school curriculum. • Knowledge of current trends and research concerning the growth and development of elementary age children. • Previous classroom teaching experience at more than one grade level and in several different school settings. Trained in Orton Gillingham and/or Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words (SIPPS)
