Job Summary
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor or designee, employee will maintain all school vehicles, motorized equipment, and other assigned areas of the school sites. In addition the employee will maintain the necessary inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment. Perform daily inspections of bus or transportation equipment. The employee completes work orders to promote the safety, function, and general appearance of the District equipment, and other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
• Valid Class 2 California driver’s license. • Class A or B with passenger endorsement and school bus certificate. • California Medical Examiners Certificate.
The Lead Mechanic must be able to: • Understand and carry out oral/written directions and write routine school reports and correspondence • Utilize current technology including District and industry associated state software • Perform moderately heavy manual labor activities • Efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment • Possess a valid Class A California vehicle operator’s license • Coordinate regulatory requirements for staff and vehicles • Read and interpret documents, i.e., safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals • Have general knowledge of air brake and electrical lighting systems and Vehicle Code rules and regulations pertaining to school buses. • Must provide own hand tools to preform function.

Sitting and standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist; pushing and pulling maintenance supplies and equipment; lifting and moving heavy objects (50 lbs. maximum); reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand and power tools.
