Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated assistant teacher to join our team for the upcoming academic year. The selected candidate will work closely with a lead Montessori teacher, assisting in the instruction and support of a mixed-aged classroom. This position is Monday through Friday, and the school day is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., starting in August and concluding in May.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Classroom Support

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lessons and classroom activities
• Support individual and small-group instruction under the guidance of the teacher
• Reinforce lessons and provide additional support to students as needed
• Help prepare, organize, and maintain Montessori materials and classroom environment

Student Support

• Provide academic and behavioral support to students
• Promote independence, responsibility, and respectful interactions
• Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs or additional supports
• Assist with transitions, routines, and supervision throughout the school day

Classroom Environment

• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly classroom environment
• Support the Montessori “prepared environment” by ensuring materials are complete, organized, and accessible
• Assist in setting up and breaking down classroom activities

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with the Lead Teacher, Program Specialist, and other staff
• Follow teacher direction in implementing instructional strategies and behavior supports
• Communicate professionally with staff and contribute to a positive team environment

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality of student information
• Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required
• Demonstrate professionalism and reliability in attendance and performance
• Support school-wide expectations, policies, and procedures

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or coursework in education or child development preferred
• Experience working with children in a school 
• Interest in or familiarity with Montessori education (training preferred but not required)
• Montessori certification (preferred)
• Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with a team
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude
