Job Description

We are seeking individuals to join our Nursing Services Department team that are fully committed to transformational, culturally responsive education in a collegial and collaborative student-centered environment.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This posting is to fill one (1) full-time, tenure track positions teaching within the NursingServices department. This position will provide instruction and instructional support for the following:
• Vocational Nursing
• Health Care Ancillaries (Medical assisting, hospice worker, home care aide, certified nurse aide, health aide, ward clerk, central service technology, childbirth educator, primary care associate, massage therapy)

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Vocational Nursing Instructors will:
1. Develop and guide the teaching learning process by adopting teaching strategies to deliver theoretical content to promote student engagement.
2. Provide clinical instruction in the acute, long-term, and community care and virtual settings to coach students in learning clinical reasoning and judgement.
3. Implement evidenced based skill building in the nursing lab setting
4. Assist in curriculum planning, implementing, and evaluating.
5. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
6. Participate and collaborate in nursing team, department, and division meetings
7. Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreements, regulatory body changes affecting the programs, and general institutional needs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Recent clinical knowledge of medical surgical nursing.
2. Ability to teach in clinical areas as assigned, utilizing a variety of successful teaching techniques.
3. An understanding of current nursing issues and trends. Willingness to actively participate and contribute to changes in the Nursing Services program at department and team meetings.
4. A commitment to staying abreast of new trends in nursing care and the clinical setting.
5. A commitment to supporting gender and ethnically diverse students.
6. Ability to ensure consistent and appropriate monitoring of student progress.
7. Ability to use teaching methods that engage all students actively in their own learning and encourage them to learn problem solving skills.
8. Ability to teach in both in-person and virtual environments.
9. Ability to adapt teaching methodologies to meet the needs of an ethnically and culturally diverse studentpopulation, while addressing varied learning styles, barriers, and challenges to support student success.
10. Ability to assist students in the acquisition, analysis, and evaluation of knowledge and skills in both clinical and virtual settings.
11. Willingness to work with both faculty and staff in a spirit of collegiality at department, division, college, and District levels.
12. Ability to reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy and modify techniques to engage students.
13. A commitment to the SBCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum.
14. A commitment to the goals and ideals of the teaching profession and enthusiasm for the mission of the community college.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience
OR
• Associate's degree and six years of professional experience.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
• Current Active California Professional License as a Registered Nurse per BVNPT.

Desirable Qualifications:
• Ability to fulfill Program Director role as outlined by the BVNPT.
• Experience working with a community college nursing program.
• Experience with Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician (BVNPT) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regulations.
• Three (3) years' experience as a registered nurse; one year shall be in teaching or clinical supervision, or a combination thereof, in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or have a minimum of three years' experience in nursing administration or nursing education within the last five years
• Have completed a course or courses offered by an approved school with instruction (1) in teaching, (2) curriculum development, and (3) administration.
• Teaching Course: (Certificate of Completion from an approved school or school transcript). If teaching content is unclear from the certificate or transcript, a copy of the course description from the school's catalog is requested.
• Knowledge of and ability to use computers and various software programs, as well as other technologies applicable for use in college classes.
