TK – Grade 5 Art Specialist
 
Part-Time Position – Lang Ranch Elementary School

$18-$25/hour; 5-10hrs/week

Lang Ranch Elementary is seeking a dynamic and creative Art Specialist to lead engaging, standards-based art instruction for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade. This part-time position is ideal for someone who is passionate about inspiring young artists and connecting visual arts to core curriculum themes such as science, language arts, and social studies.

The Art Specialist will provide weekly art instruction to students TK–5th grade, focusing on foundational skills and creative expression in painting, drawing, sculpture, and other hands-on art projects. Instruction will highlight thematic connections, introduce students to diverse artists and art styles, and align with California Visual Arts Standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate visual arts lessons for TK–5th grade.
  • Teach a variety of media and techniques including painting, drawing, collage, and clay.
  • Integrate themes from classroom curriculum (e.g., life cycles in science, storytelling in language arts, cultural studies in social science) into art lessons.
  • Expose students to a range of artists, art periods, and cultural traditions.
  • Promote creativity, problem-solving, and artistic exploration in a supportive environment.
  • Maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment that supports behavior expectations and maximizes student engagement.
  • Manage art supplies, classroom setup, and project organization.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to coordinate student art displays or events.

Qualifications:

  • Background in art education, studio art, or a related field.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and guide students.
  • Passion for integrating visual arts into academic themes.
  • Familiarity with developmentally appropriate art practices and materials.

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the California Visual Arts Standards.
  • Experience with clay and kiln-fired projects.

 

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
Graduation from high school or equivalency.
 

JOB COMPETENCIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Fundamental principles, methods and procedures of operating computers and peripheral equipment;
  • Fundamentals in classroom behavior management and support; classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct;
  • Applicable laws, codes, policies and regulations related to assigned activities.
  • Computer hardware systems and software applications utilized by the District.
