Head Coach Job Description (Season February - May 2026) Reports to: Director of Athletics and Principal At St. Vincent de Paul College Prep Inc. we hold our coaches to the highest standard of conduct. It is expected that all coaches represent the school with honor, respect and dignity. A coach should lead by example and treat athletes, parents, other coaches and officials with respect. We believe that the sports teams are an extension of the school day, and their program should align with the school values. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Coordinating tryouts and assigning athletes to the proper positions - Maintaining the required educational certificates - Hold a pre-season Parent meeting to discuss your philosophy, expectations and fundraising plans. - Scheduling games and practices and communication with parents, athletes and administration. - Provide parents and athletes with a calendar of practice and games. - Supervising any assistant coaches both paid and volunteer - Keeping track of inventory including uniforms - Be in attendance for awards nights (be part of the planning if required) - Check grades on a weekly basis - Post scores on MaxPreps and CIF Home - Create and share roster to MaxPreps and administration. - Keep MaxPreps up to date with schedule and roster changes - Work with AD and team parent to plan Senior night festivities - Provide a list of any early releases you may require - Inform AD of any schedule or roster changes immediately. - Model the values and traits of the St. Vincent De Paul College Prep mission statement and graduation outcomes. Requirements: - High School Diploma - 3 years minimum coaching experience required, High School level preferred - Two letters of recommendation - Have knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations regarding sport as presented under CIF bylaws and the National Federation Rulebook

QUALIFICATIONS: Two years previous coaching experience in assigned sports desirable. Knowledge and ability to teach fundamentals and techniques for sport hired.
APPROVED BY: The principal as recommended by the Athletic Director and recruited by the Varsity Head Coach
SUPERVISES: Lower level assistant coach(s) and student-athletes as well as those portions of the athletic program as determined by the Varsity Head Coach.
JOB GOAL: To instruct assistant coaches and student-athletes in the system, fundamental skills, strategies and physical training as put forward by the Varsity Head Coach. In addition, to instill the values of good sportsmanship and fair play along with providing a positive role model.
- Administers these aspects of the sports program as assigned by the Varsity Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.
- Sees that his assigned coaches and student-athletes adhere to the C.I.F. “Code of Ethics” and sportsmanship statement.
- Completes all certification required by the state in the NFHS Coaching Principles, CPR and First Aid, and all requirements set forth by the Diocese of Santa Rosa.
- Assists in the care and upkeep of the facilities and equipment used by his student-athletes and coaches.
- Teaches basic philosophy, system, fundamental skills and techniques as set forth by Varsity Head Coach. Organizes practice sessions that will be conducted within a safe environment, implementing said skills and techniques.
- Submits all roster changes to Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Director.
- Performs supervision assignments as assigned by Varsity Head Coach.
- Attends all required staff and Athletic Department meetings.
- Keeps up on all rules, regulations and guidelines as stated in the Athletic Department Handbook; ?CIF and National Federation Handbook for sport assigned.
- Attends conventions and professional clinics as assigned.
- Monitors, along with Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Director, academic and disciplinary standing of all student-athletes assigned.
- Conducts Parent Meetings prior to each season.
- Selects a Team Parent to help coordinate travel, and any other aspect of team parent participation.
- Completes Carpool forms documenting which vehicle each player and coach are riding in to be given to each driver and a copy to the front office prior to departing for any away game.
- Submits team award winners to Varsity Head Coach in preparation for season ending awards banquet.
- Maintains the school’s disciplinary and dress code standards.
- Assists to make sure all coaches of his/her staff are certified, as required by the state in the NFHS Coaching Principles, are CPR and First Aid certified, and have completed all requirements set forth by the Diocese of Santa Rosa.
- Assists in program and/or department fund raising efforts and/or events, as approved.
- Keeps in his possession his team’s “Authorization to Treat a Minor” cards.
- Notifies and submits proper paper work on all player injuries to Varsity Head.
- Conducts assistant coaching evaluation (if applicable) and submits to Varsity Head Coach.
- Fosters the department and school “Philosophy” and “Mission” statements.
- Performs other related and/or assigned duties as requested by Varsity Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Annual Coaching Contract stipend as approved by the Principal
EVALUATION: Head Coach and Athletic Director, immediately following conclusion of each season. This evaluation will be forwarded to the Principal with appropriate recommendations.
