Skamania School District is seeking a dedicated Substitute Teacher for our mixed 4th and 5th grade classroom. This role focuses on creating a safe and positive learning environment while delivering engaging instruction to elementary learners. 

Salary: $16,539 - $31,173 based on experience.

Assignment: This position involves providing full-time classroom teaching from October 1, 2025 to December 19, 2025.

 

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

  1. Establish and clarify acceptable standards for student behavior and demonstrate effective classroom management skills.
  2. Monitor students in a variety of educational settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment, addressing social and emotional issues as they arise.
  3. Deliver direct instruction to students in a regular classroom setting.
  4. Motivate and effectively communicate with students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. 
  5. Incorporate relevant, rigorous and challenging learning activities into daily lessons.
  6. Differentiate instruction to meet the varying levels of student ability.
  7. Provide accommodations and modifications as specified in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support equitable access to learning.
  8. Attend and contribute to staff meetings, trainings, and IEP/504 meetings.
  9. Collaborate with fellow staff members planning curriculum and instructional methods, as well as setting goals and objectives. 
  10. Maintain a cooperative attitude while working with leadership, colleagues, parents, and students.
  11. Actively participate in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process.

Other Functions:

  1. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BA/BS or higher degree with a major in one of the following areas: Curriculum, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education or similar.
  2. Hold or be eligible to hold a Washington State Teaching License, Emergency Substitute or Conditional Teaching license.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Hold and maintain an appropriate license and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Washington or emergency substitute authorization; and display a willingness to teach any qualified subject area. 
  2. Knowledge of State Math and Science Standards. 
  3. Knowledge of implementing a core reading curriculum school wide.
