Position Description for Los Banos Unified School District, Los Banos, California
The Board of Trustees of the Los Banos Unified School District, Los Banos California, is seeking a highly qualified, educational leader to serve as Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position by January 1, 2026.
 
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Trustees in identifying and screening the candidates.

The Qualifications: 
 
The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics.
 
Key Criteria: Visionary Leader, Student Centric, Connector and Communicator, Strategic Manager and Fiscal Expert, and Engaged in Community
 
Visionary Leader: A leader who listens and communicates ideas clearly and effectively while  seeking and transforming ideas into reality. This candidate would celebrate innovation, focus on success, accept risk and build a culture of growth and problem solving through continuous improvement. An individual that is able to identify and recruit talent, mentor and empower others by successfully inspiring and motivating them to achieve at high levels.  The successful candidate will always focus on our students while crafting a direction that inspires and empowers our classroom productivity and performance for all students.
 
Student Centric: A student-centered leader who is passionate that every child receives the best  education possible to achieve their full potential and become a productive contributor to society.  The candidate would embrace inclusion and champion equity in meeting the social, emotional and educational well-being of all children and families.  They would also drive this belief through the rigorous and relevant curriculum, instruction and assessment practices.
 
Connector and Communicator: A high integrity leader that is an effective collaborator and communicator.  One who has strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills and is accessible to all. The superintendent must be a team builder who is able to bring people together in unity, establishing trust, transparency, inclusiveness, and respectful relationships with the board, administration, staff, students, and community. Additionally, the superintendent must be skilled at keeping the board informed in a timely manner, understanding the role of the board, and engage them in collaborative decision-making and other efforts that continually strengthen the governance team.
 
A strategic manager and fiscal expert who demonstrates vision, operational expertise and the ability to implement long-range educational and fiscal plans that benefit students. A strong team builder who empowers other leaders by working collaboratively; developing their knowledge and skills, appropriately delegating tasks and responsibilities, building leadership and promotional opportunities from within. A leader who ensures that there are systems of evaluation for self and all employees that provide professional feedback and accountability on a regular basis. A person who is an influential problem solver in the arenas of fiscal management, special education, collective bargaining, facilities, and other operational functions of the District. Demonstrated success working in a district that is growing would be beneficial.
Engaged and Connected to the Community: A person who is a good listener, open and accessible to all.  A person with a commitment to working with students, employees, parents and community members from diverse ethnic, racial, gender, and socio-economic backgrounds. A leader who is able to communicate effectively, and is a highly visible and vested part of our schools and community.
 
Salary:  $220,000 - $260,000 (Commensurate with experience)

  • Interviews with the Board of Trustees: November 22-23, 2025
  • Selection of new Superintendent: December 11, 2025
