Job Summary

The Personnel Commission of the Huntington Beach Union High School District oversees the activities of the Commission staff, giving of their time and talents to serve the district, its classified employees, and the communities it encompasses. The Commission is a non-partisan public body entrusted with overseeing a merit-based employment system for classified (non-teaching) staff. Commissioners ensure that recruitment, selection, retention, promotion, and classifications are conducted impartially and in accordance with Education Code mandates, promoting equity and accountability throughout the district. Commissioners are private citizens who are known adherents of the merit principle. They are appointed for three-year staggered terms with each term commencing on December 1.

Requirements / Qualifications

Appointment, Term, and Meetings This position is a three-year appointment by the California School Employees Association, Chapter 157. Incumbents can be reappointed upon their showing a continued interest and support of merit system principles and practices. Term commences on December 1, 2025. Time Commitment and Meetings The Personnel Commission generally meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday, beginning at 4 p.m., at the District Board Room located at 5832 Bolsa Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92649.

Qualifications In accordance with Education Code 45244, applicants must:

  • Be a registered voter and reside within the boundaries of HBUHSD.
  • Be a known adherent to the principle of the merit system.
  • Not be an employee of HBUHSD or a current member of a governing board.
  • Be available to meet monthly and participate fully in Commission activities, including workshops or training as required.
