Weed Union Elementary School District Job Description: Literacy Coach/Reading Specialist and Teacher Definition Under the direction of the principal, Literacy Coach/Reading Specialist and Teacher, a credentialed teacher, will support and assist teachers in the implementation of the district-adopted reading and language arts program and instruct identified students. Typical Duties and Responsibilities 1. Support the selection and implementation of the district-approved reading/language arts program. In-service staff as to the components of the district-approved reading/language arts program with a strong emphasis on fidelity and research-based practices. 2. Establish intensive, year-long teacher training for all teachers and the principal in an elementary school in corrective action or restructuring status in order to train teachers to use a new reading [or math] curriculum that aggressively works on improving students’ oral language skills and vocabulary or, in some other way, builds teachers’ capacity to address academic problems. 3. Provide staff development for school-wide programs on the use of data to inform and improve instruction for eligible students. 4. Disaggregate and interpret data to improve instructional program. 5. Conduct demonstration lessons and assist with curriculum planning and pacing of the program. 6. Provide for direct assistance to students in the areas of assessment and remediation focused on prevention and correction of reading difficulties. 7. In collaboration with classroom teachers implement intervention strategies for identified students. 8. Support and collaborate with the teacher-in-charge, and Resource Specialist under the direction of the site administrator. 9. Assist teachers in teaching reading and writing content standards to students in preparation for school, district and state standards-based assessments. 10. Use longitudinal data systems to drive continuous improvement.
