CLASS TITLE: PAYROLL TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the assigned management and/or supervisory position, perform payroll accounting work involving the maintenance of classified and certificated payroll and related statistical records.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Prepare internal certificated or classified payroll documents.
Calculate deductions for non-reimbursable absences; post sick leaves, emergency leaves, personal business leaves and vacation leaves.
Balance payroll registers.
Post voluntary deductions; recalculate contract adjustments and legals; audit worker’s compensation payments to employees and make necessary adjustments to employees payroll warrant.
Prepare manual warrants and disability insurance payments.
Input salary for new hires, terminations and employees left off payroll.
Post and update current absence history and historical data on employees; assure that proper and timely data is entered into employee records.
Prepare viable payrolls.
Resolve problems and answer questions.
Apply provisions of negotiated contracts.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Practices and procedures of payroll record-keeping and filing.

Telephone techniques and etiquette.
Operation of a computer terminal and other office equipment.

Graduation from high school and two years payroll experience, or equivalent.
